Need to cut down you drying time??? Try Microfiber!!!

Hello Lovlies,

I hope you are enjoying your weekend, where ever you may be.

Now, I try to limit the amount of heat I use on my hair, and to lessen the time I spend blow drying, I air dry.  The down side to air dying, is I have very thick dense hair. Air drying can literally take days lol. I wanted to try a microfiber towel, to see if it would really cut down my drying time.

A microfiber hair towel can be indispensable when it comes to drying your hair. They offer several advantages over regular hair towels. The first advantage they have is that they dry faster. This means that when you’re busy in the morning and have a million things to do, your hair will be dried quickly and efficiently leaving you more time to other things done (like getting the kids breakfast and out the door!) The second great thing about a microfiber hair wrap is that you can put your hair up in one of these towels and leave it there for half an hour and when you finally get time to do your hair it’s almost dry but it’s still manageable. This cuts way down on the time it takes to dry your hair not to mention your hair will be healthier, you’ll have fewer split ends and your hair will look better too! And because of the properties of microfiber the hair turban will dry off quicker meaning that you can take a couple of showers or wash your hair later in the day and the towel will be dry and ready to use. The only reason you would need another one is for when the first hair towel is in the wash. And speaking of wash, microfiber hair towels are extremely easy to take care of. All you have to do is throw it in the wash with all your other clothes. That’s it! It cleans just like a regular towel. The only thing you have to be careful of is not to add any fabric softeners. The microfiber materials will absorb the fabric softener and it takes forever to come out. If this happens you’re better off getting another one.

THE PROBLEM:  I couldn't find one that was reasonably priced.  I went to bed, bath and beyond and was shocked when I saw the aquis towel for about $20.  That may not sound expensive to some, but I'm a girl on a budget.  This brand towel is supposed to be the best but I wanted to try a cheaper version before making the investment.  I knew I could possibly find it cheaper online.

It just so happened that I was in the drugstore one day, and stumbled upon the Twisted Turban.  This towel has been out for years but recently came out with a new one made of Microfiber....and for only $4.95. SCORE!!!!!!  This towel is less than the aquis towel because it has slightly less microfiber properties but for the price, is GREAT!!!  It is still super absorbant and dried my hair in a few hours, without having a soaking wet towel on my head.  NEW STAPLE!!!! Click here if you would like to get a microfiber towel!

Stay Beautiful,
XOXO

Spring Cleaning...

I never know when it is the right to time for spring cleaning, but today I did a little shopping and thought I better get rid of the old to make room for the new.  While cleaning, I thought maybe I should try this with everything in my life.  As I recylce clothes that I once adorned, but for one reason or another, no longer suit me...I decided to do the same with some relationships, activities, etc.  I plan to purge my life of anything that does not suit me, now nor in my future.

This is a really random post, but as my life changes  I thought it only right for me to share.

I'm not sure how many people actually read the blog, but if you do please follow.  I would love to know how I can keep your interest.  If the topic suits me of course lol.  But all in all, I would like to get to know my readers, if I have any!!!!

On another note, I am starting an assistant position next week.  I am excited about this opportunity!! I have tried a few other salons in the past, but it didn't work out.  I'm excited about my future in general.  I'm really loving life and trusting the God will take care of me.  Believe me when I say, it is a heavy load off my shoulders.  If you haven't tried it, honey...."LET GO, AND LET GOD".  There ain't any other way!!! Just smile because you can.
I Love my smile, and love to share it with everyone around me.  I try not to let anyone turn my frown upside down...and if I don't feel upbeat, I fake it until I do lol!

Smooches babies!!!

PRODUCT REVIEW: CHI ROYAL TREATMENT PEARL COMPLEX

I picked up this product a few days ago and used it on a client yesterday....

The specs:
Pearl Complex - Lightweight treatment perfect for hair and skin. Pearl Complex is a superior lightweight leave-in treatment with white truffle and pearl developed for all hair and skin types. It will replenish, reconstruct and nourish, while helping in repairing split ends without buildup or added weight.

My initial review:
I love it!  I applied it to wet hair...it has a greasy consistancy, so I was a bit scared.  I thought to myself "not another serum".  I applied a little more than a quater amout to the entire head.  It felt velvety on my hand but once applied to the head, it felt greasy.  I sat my client under the hooded dryer to dry for 20 mins. and when I sat her in the chair her hair was soooooo soft. Not oily at all. it had body and movement.  My client had thick, natural, African american hair.  I would use it on finer textures, but limit the amount.

I would reccommend this product...PLUS you can use it on your skin as well!!!!! Awesome!  If you get this product, please tell me what you think!

Until next time.....

Knowledge is Power: Fairy knots...

Have you ever ran you fingers through your hair and noticed a few knots near your ends.  First of all, keep your hands out of your hair!!! Those knots are dreadful FAIR KNOTS...

Fairy knots or single strand knots (SSK) are knots on a single strand of hair.  Which in turn, results in split ends and breakage.  Many naturals are plagued with the frustrating "condition".

The term fairy Knots come from the belief that tiny fairies, actually tie the strand into knots.  Absolute rubbish!!!The truth of the fact, is that the coilier the hair the more the hair has the opportunity to wrap around itself to form these single strand knots.

The only way to remedy fairy knots are to snip snip...but to prevent the from occurring there are a few things you can try:

1.  Moisturize...Moisturize....Moisturize!!!
2.  Avoid wash n go's whenever possible
3.  Dust hair regularly
4.  Seal ends with an oil or butter....did I say moisturize!!!

Even if you do all of these things, it is still likely that coily hair like 4a, b, and c to see a few knots.  I get them often, and when I see them I just snip that strand so I can prevent it from splitting.  If you do dust yours ends regularly, please invest in a good pair of shears.  Dull shears WILL do the same things as fairy knot; cause split ends.  Invest in pair of high quality, sharp shears.  They can get pricey, so do shop around!

Good luck natural beauties and lets take this knowledge and use it to fill the world with beautiful, HEALTHY hair lol!!!!

I'm getting married!!!

Soooooo....
As stated in the title...I am getting married!!!!!

Here's how it went down:
We started the evening with dinner at a beautiful Italian restaurant in the hotel.  By the way, we stayed at Mount airy casino resort. This hotel is beautiful, compared to the motels and low budget hotels of the Poconos.

I know my man sooo well y'all...I can't say that I was very surprised.  He was suspiciously quiet the entire day, and seemed somewhat nervous...clue #1.  That's how I knew what was up.

We sat and played the slots for a bit, after dinner.  He started talking about how much he loved me and asking if I loved him and wanted to be with him forever.  He is not usually this much of a mush...clue #2!  He got on his knees and sort of proposed but no ring?!?! I didn't take it serious...not that I wouldn't marry him without the engagement ring, I just KNOW he would give me one if he were serious.

We head back to our room, and he starts taking off his earring.  His diamond resembles a princess cut diamond, so he acted like the earring was a ring and tried it on my finger. While doing so, he started telling me he wanted to be with me for the rest of his life, and take care of me and our daughter.  I truly love this man!!!  He reached in his pocket and pulled out a REAL ring box.  OMG!!!! I was so happy to see that box. All I could say was "is that for me?"

I LOVE BEING IN LOVE!!!!
...On to wedding planning lol!

Me and my hunny!!

until next time....

Long time, no blog!!!

Hi all,

I have been super busy this month.  For the most part, I have been working on building my clientele and studying for my cosmetology state boards.  I'm back on board though!

This weekend is my anniversary! OMG, I have been with my bf for 8 yrs.  We celebrating in the Poconos, at a casino resort.  I am soooooo excited,, we went last year and had a blast!  Three nights of gambling, dinner, drinks and grown up time lol.
Baby Jayla is staying with her grandma for the weekend.  I'm fortunate to have a very supportive family.  If ever I need a break to clear my head and just relax, there is always someone more than willing to occupy my babygirl.  I know everyone doesn't have this, and I feel truly blessed.

Plan to see some update from the mountains!!!

Love, Peace

Saint Valentine

No dinner, no movie...just a night spent at home with my two favorite people. My hubby came home from work with with a bouquet of flowers and card. We were gonna hit up the NJ Nets basketball game but i wasnt into it. So we decided to get sushi and moscato and have a nice quiet night at home. We normally dont do anything big for vday, since our aniversary is the next month.
We plan to celebrate our 8 yrs together at a resort in the poconos. Completely together, alone and childless lol. Don't get me wrong, i love my daughter, but time alone with my boo is hard to come by. I can't wait!

My daughter, Jayla, had a great vday! She was showered with gifts from her favorite uncle and godfather. She gets better gifts than some women i know. Pair of diamond earings! Its nice to be the baby of the fam!

Hope you had a great day!

LOVE, peace

GREEN AND YELLOW, GREEN AND YELLOW!!!!!

SUPER BOWL XLV!!!!

This sunday, the Packers celebrated a victory over the Steelers.  They were the underdogs and ended the game victorious.

Now, I'm not a football enthusiast but I did enjoy the game.  My boyfriend and I watched the game at a friends mansion in mill neck, LI.  It was a small gethering of his co-workers.  We enjoyed some wings, chesse sticks, and other small plate foods.  Of course, beer and wine were on deck!!!!

This was my look for the evening
I straigened my hair a few days earlier but humidity got the best of it, so I decided to add a few curls. Its still a bit frizzy but I appreciate the messy look.  I think it works lol.  I used my FHI runway flat iron to curl and finished the look with Garnier Sleek and Shine hair spray, which gives it a light hold.

If your are interested in the Runway flatiron, I definately think it is worth the pretty penny it costs.
This is a no non-sense flat iron and will straighten the unruliest locks. Trust me...I'm a stylist!!! lol.
Give it a try!!!

Sally Hansen Salon Effects!!!!

Hey dolls,

This amazing product has changed the nail game for the better!!! Minx...who?!?! Now, I am sure that minx nails are better, but because I have never experienced them, I cannot confirm.

The application of the salon effect was the easiest EVER!!!!  Maybe even easier than nail polish.  I'm not big on polishing my own nails, so this is a great alternative for those with a shaky hand.  Check out my YouTube review of the product.

My babys hair

Hey lovelies,

As I mentioned, I am the mother of a beautiful 14 month old baby girl. As her hair grows and matures, i experiment with different styles and regimens. Her reggie now consist of weekly shampoo with dr. Bronners baby castile soap and sometimes condition with herbal essence hello hdyration conditioner. I use scurl to moisturize and seal with coconut oil. I then braid it or put in ponytails and keep it moving. Her being so young, she really doesn't want to sit for very long. And i find that when it comes to children, its best to KEEP IT SIMPLE!

More styles will come soon...

Tabatha Coffey Salon

Tabatha's salon takeover happens to be one of my favorite shows, at the moment.  She does great transformations to sinking salons, an as an aspiring salon owner, I learn quite a bit.  I always wondered how her salon is ran and how amazing it looks.

Well I just happened to stumble on a video clip of Tabatha giving a small tour of her salon. And here it is:

Now, it is a bit smaller and understated than I imagined.  But, then again Tabatha wouldn't have too much going on!  Its cute and in New Jersey of all places.  Would love to train with her one day!

OPI shatter nail polish search and chi hair colour

I searched high and low for this nail polish but it has been sold out in my area. I will call around tomorrow to see if i can find it elsewhere... But in the meantime since i was in the beauty supply, i could not help buying something. I picked up some color i've been meaning to try. Its the CHI infra high lift cream color. It claims to lift and deposit in one step. They also have a no lift color. The colors range from blondes, reds, browns and a deposit only black. I am testing it out on my mannequin now and will give u guys an update. It has a sorta pleasant smell. Sort of!!! Somewhat ammonia smell but a hint of grapes. I attest the grape smell to the rv color choice. If you have tried this color, let me know what u think of it.

Transitioning???

Hey lovelies,
I thought I would share with you, my transition story.  I touched on it in my recent video but here is the more in depth story.

I started transitioning Christmas of 2006.  I believe my last relaxer was November of that year.  The decision to transition was a spear of the moment kind of thing.  I didn't have a plan of attack or specific regimen to follow.  I wouldn't suggest rushing into transitioning.  I struggled the first few months.  I wore my hair straight the majority of my life, and never even heard of protective styling.  I began researching and came to find and FALL IN LOVE with a little site called Longhaircareforum.com.  It was a blessing to stumble across this natural and relaxed hair heaven.  I also attribute my transitioning success to Blackhairmedia.com.  I still frequent these sites.

I began to learn different ways to transition and I decided the best way for me to transition, would be to big chop. I just thought it would be quicker and less painful. Now, instead of a total big chop, i did a mini.  I cut my hair into a bob.  My hair was apl when I was relaxed, so it was still a significant chop.  As the stylist took the first snip, I remember these two girls gasping behind me and say "why would she do that?"    I just find it interesting how SOME women define themselves by their mane.

By early 2008, I had been transitioning for over a year, while wearing micros and weaves.  One day after taking out my micros, I made the ultimate no-no.  I began washing my hair, without detangling.  OMG, OMG,OMG!!! I was in the shower sobbing like a little baby.  My hair was unbelievably matted. I must have wasted an entire bottle of conditioner trying to detangle my hair.  I got on the phone and called my mom, crying my eyes out.

That's when I decided, to take it all off.  Angry at my own ignorance, I took a pair of shears and began cutting off my tangled, relaxed ends. When it was over and done, I actually felt OK.  I thought it was be devastating but it was quite the contrary.  I felt free.

I wasn't wearing anybody's TWA though! The next day, I went out and got a fabulous weave, which started my love affair with Remy hair lol.

Here are a few pictures of my natural hair after I got comfortable rocking it...

I hope this helps anyone going through this process.  There were many times I contemplated giving up and succumbing to that creamy crack...but all my hard work and dedication would have been in vein. Don't give up! Like anything in life, if you really want it, you most definitely should have it.  I would really like to know how your transitions are going.  Drop me a line, and tell me your thoughts.

Until next time,
Love, Peace and Hair grease...

New Beginnings…

I wanted to start this blog, to share my experiences as a new mom and as I enter a new industry. I am an aspiring hair stylist and plan to take you on my road to super stardom lol. I have big dreams, and with the help and support of my wonderful family and awesome friends, I plan on reaching each and every one of them. I'm not an English major so pleassssse don't critique my grammar, but I will try my best. I recently graduated from cosmetology school, and looking for a salon to become a part of. I'm in the New York area, and although salons are in abundance, not all are the ideal environment for me. SOOOO, in the meantime, to make cash I have been doing hair at my home and at clients' homes. It's worked out pretty well. I have not yet taken the state boards so, once I do that I can start applying to high end salons. I have so many things on my plate and so many things in store. There's more to come about hair and even my journey into motherhood.

Until next time; Love, Peace, and Hair grease!!!!
